Hello everyone, this is Juan Carlos Gastelum. I am a real estate investor in Texas.
In my last video, we discussed how to get started if you’re a newbie in real estate investing. We mentioned having and setting clear goals. We also mentioned the importance of identifying your market. And we also said that you needed to do a thorough research into the type of properties that you want to invest in. Okay, so first, you need to get around people that are like-minded individuals and that share the same type of investing interests as you. And for that you can search for meetup groups or real estate investment groups online. You could google “real estate meetup group” and then your area. Or you could google “real estate investment groups” and then type in your particular city or your State. You could also join groups that gather virtually like I have. I am working with a group that is communicating through WhatsApp. I am also in a group that has Zoom meetings periodically. This group also meets in person in McAllen, Texas. So there are many ways that you can join a group and start interacting with like-minded individuals and sharing your real estate experiences and interests.
This is a great opportunity for you to either present a deal that you have found and that you’re looking to partner-up with someone, or if it is a deal that you have found, but are not sure if it’s the right investment and you can enquire about other’s experiences in real estate investing. Step by step, little by little you can get in the know how of what a good deal looks like.
If you’re really just getting started and have not found a group to join, you could also start reading up on real estate investing. For that I am recommending a few reads that I like. Of course everyone mentions “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” as the basic real estate investing book by Robert Kiyosaki. It’s a great read. Also, you may want to read up on Ken McElroy´s ABCs of Real Estate Investing; wonderful book. You can also find them online. Ken McElroy, he’s got a great podcast. Also, you may want to read up on Brandon Turner’s real estate investing books. I’m showing the covers now you can also join Bigger Pocket and, listen to their podcasts. Its a great way to get started and become familiarized with at least the concepts and terminology of real estate.
So start getting around people that are either experienced or just getting started like you are. And start becoming familiar with networking in these groups so that you can start building your knowledge on real estate. I definitely recommend going online and searching for meetup groups. And once you find your group, make sure that you’re actively participating in the group. So read up, and start sharing information that you’ve learned, sharing information that you know about the market and become a giver, not just a taker and start interacting with other like-minded individuals. And pretty soon your network will grow and you’ll become immersed in the real estate arena within your market.
So our tip for today is to get involved in a real estate investment group. Get involved in a meetup in your area, and become active and participate proactively within that group. So that’s it for now. Best wishes on your real estate journey! Take care and God bless!
